Who we are
The mission of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety (GHDPS) is to “protect the community and work to enhance the quality of life in Grand Haven.” This commitment drives every aspect of the Department’s work—from emergency response and public safety education to community engagement and prevention efforts.
However, as the community grows and evolves, so too do the demands placed on the Department. Increasing call volumes, expanding service needs, and heightened expectations for modern equipment and training have significantly stretched existing resources. These challenges impact the Department’s ability to maintain optimal response times, ensure officer safety, and provide the comprehensive services the community relies upon.
In light of these growing demands and the need to sustain and enhance public safety services, the Department is requesting voter support for a millage. This funding would provide a stable and dedicated revenue stream to address critical staffing, equipment, facility, and operational needs—ensuring that GHDPS can continue to fulfill its mission effectively and protect the community’s quality of life for years to come.
